The Cat Share by Angela Jariwala is a heart warming romantic comedy that revolves around a charming cat named Oscar, whose insatiable curiosity and greed inadvertently connects two lonely souls.
Following a breakup and a significant career transition, Jenni realises that her cat has been leading a double life, fostering a bond with a solitary firefighter named Ben. Their relationship blossoms through an anonymous exchange of heartfelt notes attached to Oscar’s collar, ultimately revealing that their shared feline companion is the key to discovering new love after previous heart break.
This delightful story features relatable, endearing characters, particularly Oscar, who, as a proud cat mum of three, I couldn’t help but adore. The plot is straightforward in its storytelling, its simplicity enhances the enjoyment rather than detracts from it. I found myself amused by the moments when Jenni and Ben unknowingly crossed paths. As the reader, I got to see their connection and playfully anticipate the moment they realise they’ve been exchanging notes all along.
Sometimes, you just crave a light hearted tale rather than an epic fantasy saga, and this story fulfils that desire beautifully. Plus, it features a cat, which is essentially a cheat code for winning my approval.
Sadly, Angela Jariwala passed away on Christmas Day in 2021. Her family collaborated with the publisher to ensure the completion and release of the book in her honour. Her daughter, Maya Jariwala, played an instrumental role in bringing the manuscript to fruition, using her mother’s notes and drafts as a foundation. This endeavour is a heartfelt tribute to Angela’s talent and the “true story” that inspired the novel.
Reading this book was a joyous experience, and the dedication to its late author gave me a bittersweet feeling. I felt sorrow over Angela’s passing, yet joy in knowing that her stories continue to resonate and bring happiness to readers after her departure.
Thank you Angela Jariwala x
